Bec Stafford believes everyone deserves a guide when life's most challenging systems become overwhelming. As the founder of Pharos & Thread, she's that guide for people navigating healthcare's maze of paperwork, appointments, and decisions that feel impossible during a health crisis. Bec's journey to patient advocacy wasn't a straight line. Throughout her career untangling complex systems and building bridges between technical requirements and human needs, she kept noticing the same pattern: systems that work perfectly on paper often fail the real people trying to use them. Then life threw its own challenges her way. Experiencing firsthand how quickly bureaucracy can become quicksand during personal crisis, Bec realized her professional skills could be someone else's lifeline. That's when Pharos & Thread was born – not from pity but from purpose. What makes Bec different is her refusal to settle for what she calls "compassion theatre" – those empty gestures of sympathy without meaningful action. Instead, she rolls up her sleeves and gets to work, guiding people step-by-step through processes that would otherwise leave them stranded. With a mind shaped by literature (Victor Hugo is a large influence on her sense of justice) and a heart attuned to justice, Bec brings both practical know-how and genuine empathy to each person's situation. She believes advocacy isn't charity, it's empowerment, giving people the tools to navigate their journey with confidence and dignity. Based in East San Francisco Bay Area, Bec is creating something special: a way through when the path seems impossible. Whether she's illuminating complex healthcare pathways or weaving together fragmented pieces of care, her work reminds us that sometimes the most compassionate thing we can offer is clarity.
